Dear Friends and Colleagues,
You are cordially invited to participate in the ENDOCYTOBIOLOGY VII Congress which is to be held in Freiburg on April 5 - 9, 1998.
Since the last, memorable meeting in Tübingen (Germany) in 1995, exciting progress continues to be made (thanks mainly to new biotechnologies), including insights into the mechanisms and extent of recent and current horizontal gene transfer, phylogenetic analyses, and confirmations of the endocytobiotic theory of evolution. Interest in this field is mushrooming. The success in more theoretical, academic areas has spurred activities in the applied fields, including medicine. So these themes will play a central role in the conference, as can be seen from the enclosed list of symposia. We expect lively discussions ranging from theoretical philosophical considerations to strategies and methods in practical endocytobiology, symbiosis and medicine.
Historic Freiburg, the gateway to the Black Forest will offer, above and beyond its year-round hospitality, lots of attractive leisure time activities at this time of the year. You should have time to visit some of its varied cultural and natural sites, including the famous Freiburg Münster, the trails and lakes of the Black Forest, not to forget the famous local wines and culinary treats!
