2nd Circular
10th International Colloquium on Endocytobiology and Symbiosis
Gmunden, Upper Austria, September 10-13, 2007
As many of you know, ISEX in Gmunden had to be organized at rather short notice.
The time slot from September 10, evening, to September 13 could not be prolonged due to unavailability of the conference center. As a consequence,
the scientific part will be rather tightly packed. Evening sessions will be feasible due to on site catering and the possibility to relax in between the
lectures in the beautiful park around the Villa Toscana. An afternoon boat tour followed by a buffet dinner in a local restaurant on the opposite site
of the lake will be a break on Wednesday, September 12. We will not be able to accommodate as many short lectures as someone might wish. However, two
poster sessions will allow ample time for poster presentation and discussion. We encourage you to stay for one or two days longer after the final congress
dinner on thursday evening and to participate in the social events planned for friday, September 14.

Travel
You may choose to fly in to Vienna, Salzburg or Linz airports. Trains from
the corresponding railway stations (in case of Vienna: Westbahnhof) take about
150, 60, and 45 min to Attnang-Puchheim, respectively. There you change to
a local train that reaches Gmunden station in 15 min. Further directions will
appear on the website in due time.
In contrast to meetings occurring in major cities, the use of your own
car is preferable, if possible. There is a big parking lot just outside of
the Toscana Park. Public transportation is not very efficient in a small town.
For participants without a car we will try to organize car pools and to rent
a minibus. There is also the possibility to walk (about 20 min towards Gmunden
or Altmuenster) or to use a taxi (approx. 5 Euro) for the transfer between
conference site and hotel.
Conference venue
Toscana Congress is adjacent to the Villa Toscana in the historic Toskana-Park halfway between Gmunden and Altmuenster at the Traunsee. The former property of Archduke Johann Salvator was intermittently owned by the sister of the famous philosopher Wittgenstein, Margaret Stonborough, who was made “immortal” through the marvellous painting of Gustav Klimt.
Accomodation
Reservations have been made in several hotels in Gmunden and Altmuenster (see hotel map). Booking can be done via the website of Toscana Congress.

In case of interest other possibilities for accompanying persons could be organized, e.g. a tour through the Gmunden Ceramic Manufacture, a trip to Bad Ischl with a visit to the “Kaiservilla” (approx. 9 Euro), or admission to the Thomas Bernhard Museum near Gmunden displaying the oeuvre of the well-known Austrian playwright (approx. 9 Euro).
